Welcome to Board Certified Docs!
IMPORTANT:
The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) has
recently implemented standards which specify that board certification is
contingent upon meeting the ongoing requirements of Maintenance of
Certification (MOC). As of January 1, 2010, the ABP no longer
issues certificates with specific end dates, since MOC is based on
continuous activity rather than fixed intervals.
We recently received the first batch of records in the new
format, for diplomates whose certification expired in 2009. The
profiles of physicians whose certification is now based on MOC participation
will include a dagger symbol †
following the certification
start year, which indicates there is a Reverification Date (which is NOT the
same as an end date).
All records in this first batch
include the same Reverification Date. The explanatory statement and date on
the profile will meet PSV requirements. Reverification dates will update
once a year as an indication that the physician is still participating in
MOC. If the physician does not remain current in MOC, the profile will
display
NOT CERTIFIED.
NOTE: If a diplomate with Lifetime certification chooses
to voluntarily participate in MOC, the Lifetime certification status will
not change, regardless of MOC participation status.
When we launch our new website this summer (stay tuned
for more details) records that contain the new MOC status will display
the Reverification Date in the certification section, instead of the current
dagger symbol and explanatory statement. In addition, our new website will
include several other exciting features and improvements. More details
to follow soon!
NEW:
We received the first group of diplomates to be
certified under the new sub-certification of Congenital Cardiac Surgery
issued by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. You can use the
Advanced Search to find physicians certified in that sub-specialty.
